England win the 2nd European Mixed Pairs Championships
Congratulations to England’s Annalisa Dunham and Dominic McVittie who have been crowned 2025 Titan Wealth European Mixed Pairs champions.
They beat Israel’s Ruti Gilor and Dan Slodownik in the gold medal match at Sun Bowls Club, Jersey, 8-5, 10-4.
Bronze medal winners were Wales’ Emma Gittins and Ross Owen who returned an 8-2, 12-6 scorecard over Spain’s Lorna Cormack and Dave Morrison.
The mixed pairs event is a World Bowls Series ranking event, with the championship medallists receiving silver ranking points.
Twenty-eight players from 14 countries contested the four-day championship which was staging it’s second edition, the first being played in Tenerife two years ago.
After an enthralling group game stage, with some great bowling on display, it all came down to the wire in Group A, with Wales clinching the top spot on 19 points and Spain finishing second with 16, pipping the current holders Ireland (Zoe Stratton and Stephen Kirkwood) on shot difference.
In Group B, England topped the group with 23 points, amassing a staggering 102 shot difference, their only scare losing one set to the hosts Jersey, with Israel sneaking second place by a solitary point over Switzerland.
The drama of the group games continued into the semi-finals where England edged Spain in a tiebreak last bowl thriller 11-3, 5-8, 1-0 and Israel took the honours against Wales 6-4, 8-8.
Presentations were made by Bowls Europe chairman Bob Christie MBE, Bowls Jersey’s junior vice president Ethel Southern and head of trading Justin Jouan, of event sponsor Titan Wealth.
A special presentation was made to Bob Le Sueur, greenkeeper at Sun BC, who received a commemorative trophy for the club in honour of their hosting duties.
