
European Bowls Championship 2022
Dates – Saturday 9 through Thursday 14th July 2022
Hosts – Bowls Scotland
Played at – National Centre for Bowling, Ayr, Scotland
The tournament held in 2022, was the 13th European Bowls Championships.
The prestigious lawn bowls tournament was open to all member countries of Bowls Europe. Each country were able to enter up to 5 ladies and 5 gents players, who competed against each other in Ladies and Gents – Singles, Pairs, Triples and Rinks. This is a similar format played in the World Championships and the Commonwealth Games.
The tournament saw some of the best players, or best up and coming international players, from each country.

Bowls Scotland – Hosts of the European Bowls Championships 2022
Bowls Scotland were to have been the host of the 13th European Championships in 2021, but like a lot of activities throughout the world, it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The tournament was open to all of the 19 members of Bowls Europe to enter the tournament, which comprised of Ladies and Gents Singles, Pairs, triples and Fours.
This was a change in format from the previous European Championships. It was decided to change the format to a similar format, at the time, to that used in World Championships organised by World Bowls Ltd.
Bowls Europe were delighted to have Bowls Scotland agree to host the Championships. They are well versed in hosting top lawn bowls tournaments.
The combination of Bowls Scotland and Bowls Europe will resulted in a very well run tournament and a memorable event, where some of the best players and best up and coming players from around Europe competed in this prestigious, International, lawn bowls event.
Alan McMillan, CEO of Bowls Scotland, having agreed to host the event said –
“I am excited to welcome Europe’s bowls nations to Scotland and enjoy this celebration of competitive bowls.
“The European Championships will develop over the coming years to provide a vital platform for players to achieve their full potential. I am sure the Bowls Europe Directors, Bowls Scotland staff, volunteers, players, and spectators will all contribute to a memorable event.”

Bob Christie, Bowls Europe Chair, added: “Bowls Europe is delighted that Bowls Scotland is supporting the 2022 European Championships.
“I am glad that the new competition format mirrors other major bowls events such as the World Championships and Commonwealth Games. We are also exploring the opportunity of adding visually impaired and physically disabled para bowls disciplines alongside the mainstream Championships.
“This would establish the European Championships as the most inclusive premier bowls event in the Northern Hemisphere.”
