Pairs and Triples Semi Finals -Results-

Finally, after 3 days of hard competition, in hot conditions, the European Bowls Championships reached the semi finals of the ladies and gents pairs and triples on Monday 11 July 2022.

Up till this point the bowling on display has been very good. Would that level of bowling be maintained or even “bettered”? Let’s just say they didn’t disappoint and the crowd saw some cracking games of bowls.

Pairs

Women

In the womens pairs –

Ireland (Sarah Kelly & Shauna O’Neil) played against Scotland (Emma Mcintyre & Rachael Sinclair). After 15 ends the score was finely poised at 11-10 for Ireland.
Ireland built on that lead in the next 2 ends, winning the game 14-11
Ireland – Winners.

England (Emma Cooper and Stef Branfield) played against Wales (Alls Butten and Bethan Russ). After a back and forth type game the score after 16 ends was 13-12 to England. England secured the win scoring 2 shots in the final 2 ends to win the game 17-12.
England – Winners.

Men

In the mens pairs – 

Ireland (Stuart Bennet & Stephen Kirkwood) played against Guernsey (Matt Solway and Todd Priaulx). This was another tight game with the game being tied at the 15th end 9-9. On the 17th and penultimate end Ireland had pulled ahead by 3 shots (12-9). Guernsey scored 3 shots in the last end to take the game to an extra end.
In the last end, Guernsey got the 1 shot to take them through to the final 12-13.

England  (Tom McGuiness & Edward Morris) played against Scotland (Jason Banks & John Fleming Jnr.). England pulled ahead in the first half of the game 9-3. Thereafter, they continued to pull ahead and won the game 19-11.

Triples

Women

Wales (Lauren Gowen, Hannah Williams & Melanie Thomas) played against England (Ruby Hill, Laura Holden & Lorraine Kuhler). After 13 ends the scored was tied at 14-14. On the 16th end, with the game again balanced at 15-15 Wales scored 2 shots to go 17-15 up. England then fought back to score a 1 & a 2 in the last 2 ends to win the game 18-17.

England – Winners.

Scotland (Kimberley Dodds, Dawn Anderson & Megan Grantham) played against Ireland (Ashleigh Rainey, Lara Reaney & Chloe Wilson). Scotland took the lead early on building up a 6 shot lead by the 12th end (15-9). Ireland however came fighting back winning every end till the end to win the game 19-15.

Men

England (Lee Calver, Jordan Philpott & Harry Goodwin) played against Ireland (Aaron Tennant, Gary Kelly and Mark Wilson). On the 10th end England were 9-7 up before conceding a 4 in the 11th end to take Ireland into an 11-9 lead. Ireland thereafter held onto the lead winning the game 16-13.

Israel (Zvika Hadar, Selwyn Hare & Allan Saitowitz) played against Scotland (Blair Davidson, Mark O’Hagan & Connor Milne). After 11 ends Israel had managed to build up a 4 shot lead – 13-9). Like the other mens semi final, Scotland then scored a total of 5 shots on the next to end to pull back and take the lead 14-13. On the 14 end, Israel scored 1 shot to level the game at 14-14. Scotland then won the next 3 ends to take a 4 shot lead going into the last end (18-14) with Israel only able to score a 1, losing the game 15-18.
