Fours

Women

In the womens fours final –

Jersey (Kim Gallichan, Gina de Long, Rachael MacDonald and Megan Kivlin) played against Scotland (Kimberely Dodds, Dawn Anderson and Rachael Sinclair).

In the first end, Jersey took a 2 shot lead. but in the following 4 ends, Scotland took the game by the scruff of the neck scoring a 1, 2, 1 and a 5. That 5 gave Scotland a huge psychological lift and dented the Jersey teams confidence.

Scotland proved to be just too strong on the day and Jersey, who had played very well up to the final,  it turned out be “one of those days”. With Scotland running out 16-6 winners.

Scotland – Winners.

Men

In the mens fours finals-

Once again the “Auld Enemy” played against one another – England (Tom McGinnes, Lee Calver, Harry Goodwin, Edward Morris). Scotland (Blair Davidson, Jason Banks, Conner Milne and John Fleming Jnr.)

Both teams had played very well up to the final, and on paper, this looked like a belter of a game, with neither quarter asked nor given.

The first 6 ends were unbelievable, with each team taking ends each – England 1, 0, 5, 0 and a 1. Scotland 0, 3, 0, 2, 0 and a 3. To give Scotland a narrow 8-7 lead.

In the 7th end England brought it back to all level, at 8-8, only to see Scotland scores 1′ in the 8th and 9th end to again take them into the lead 10-8.

That feat was replicated in the next two ends by England to make it all square in the 11th end, 10-10.

Scotland then won the 12 and 13th end scoring a total of 3 shots to lead 13-10, with only 2 ends to go. What Scotland would have gave to win the penultimate end to ease the pressure. However, it wasn’t to be with England picking up two shots to bring them to within 1 shot of Scotland.

This set up a nail biter of a last end. What way was the game to go? Well, it was Scotland who managed to get the one shot they needed in the last end to win 14-12.

An excellent game, worthy of a final.

Scotland Winners.

Singles

Women

The final of the Women’s Singles saw another “Auld Enemy” match between Scotland (Emma McIntyre) and England (Stef Branfield).

The first 10 ends, were very tight, with the lead swinging one way and then another. GOing into the 11th end the score was tied at 6-6.

The next 3 ends were taken by Stef, scoring a total of 4 shots, too give her a 10-6 lead after 13 ends.

The next 4 ends saw each taking two ends scoring 1 on each end, making it 11-7 to England.

That pattern was then broken, despite stiff resistance from Emma, with Stef scoring four 1¡s to extend her lead to 16-8.

In the 22nd end, Emma got one shot but quickly lost 2 shots in the 23rd end, giving Stef an 18-9 lead.

Emma dug in again scoring a 1, a 2, a 1 and then another 2 shots in the next 4 ends to peg back England, reducing the deficit to just 3 shots, at 18-15.

Unfortunately, that was, unfortunately brought the end of Emma’s brave fight back when Stef scored a 3 in what was to be the last end, winning 21-15.

England – Winners.

Men

The final of the Men’s Singles saw Mike Rive of Jersey play against Gary Kelly of Ireland.

After Gary had taken an early lead, Mike fought back to tie the game 5-5 on the 7th end.

The highly experienced Gary then blew the lid off the game, which proved to be the pivotal moment of the game, when he scored a 3, a 1, and then a 4 in the next three ends, to give him a 13-5.

Thereafter despite a spirited fight from Mike, Garry controlled the rest of the game and after 20 ends, won the game 21-10.

Ireland – Winners
